CWA Provides Update on Water Main Repair and System Status

Mar 28, 2026 | Announcements

The Chester Water Authority (CWA) is pleased to announce the successful completion of critical repairs to a damaged water main that had caused recent service disruptions. The issue originated within an active PennDOT construction zone along Route 322 near Cherry Tree Road in Upper Chichester Township. Demonstrating exceptional dedication and urgency, CWA crews worked around the clock, swiftly isolating the problem and making the necessary repairs to restore service as quickly as possible. CWA is investigating and gathering information needed to determine what caused or contributed to the line breakage within the PennDOT-owned construction site.

The water distribution system has returned to standard operating conditions, and customers should be experiencing normal water pressure in their homes.

Customers are encouraged to visit CWA’s website and review detailed instructions for addressing any lingering issues, such as cloudy water or air in plumbing systems. Link here: https://chesterwater.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Notice-for-return-to-water-pressure.pdf

As part of required safety protocols, CWA personnel have completed the first of two rounds of water sampling mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP). These tests are necessary to confirm that the water system is free of microbiological contaminants.

The Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for residents in Upper Chichester, Lower Chichester, Marcus Hook, Twin Oaks, and Bethel Township on Maher Boulevard and William Road until all required samples have been fully analyzed and reviewed, and official approval is granted by PA DEP.

In the meantime, three water filling stations will remain available to support customers until the advisory is lifted. These water filling stations are available 24 hours a day for the duration of the situation at the following locations:

  • Upper Chichester Township Municipal Building, 8500 Furey Rd, Upper Chichester
  • Marcus Hook Borough Administrative Office, 1111 Market Street, Marcus Hook
  • Ogden Fire Company, 4300 Naamans Creek Rd, Boothwyn

CWA appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as we work to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the water system.
