Upper Chichester, PA [March 27, 2026] — Great news reporting from the Chester Water Authority (CWA). Crews have successfully isolated the major water main break located within an active construction zone along Route 322 near Cherry Tree Road in Upper Chichester Township. The incident, which began on March 26, 2026, resulted in service disruptions and reduced water pressure across the system. As of 4:20 p.m., the source of uncontrolled water loss has been contained, allowing the system to begin stabilizing and recovering.
The water distribution system is expected to gradually recover over the next 18 to 24 hours as crews continue their work. During this time, customers will gradually see water pressure return to normal as crews work to identify the cause of the break and carry out repair operations.
“We’re encouraged by the progress our crews have made in isolating the break and stabilizing the system,” said Darryl Jenkins, Executive Manager. “Our priority now is restoring normal service safely and ensuring the water system returns to full operation as quickly as possible.”
Although progress is being made, the Boil Water Notice remains fully in effect for all impacted customers in Upper Chichester, Lower Chichester, Marcus Hook, and Twin Oaks. As a precaution, the advisory has also been expanded to include two additional streets in Bethel Township—Maher Boulevard and William Road. Note that customers outside of these areas do not need to take action. While some nearby areas may experience low water pressure, boiling water is only necessary within the advisory zone.
While the system returns to normal operation, customers should continue to take precautions to ensure their safety. Water should be boiled for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or making ice. For food preparation and infant care, customers should use boiled or bottled water and avoid consuming tap water without boiling. Water Filling Stations located at the Upper Chichester Township Building, Marcus Hook Borough Office and Ogden Fire Company will remain in operation 24 hours a day until the Boil Water Notice has been lifted.
Customers are also encouraged to follow all additional guidance provided on CWA’s website. A detailed set of instructions is available at this link to help customers safely navigate this period while the system stabilizes. Customers will be notified immediately once the Boil Water Notice is lifted.
Customers are encouraged to continue to visit the CWA website for the latest updates, detailed instructions, and ongoing information as recovery efforts continue.
