Upper Chichester, PA [March 26, 2026] — The Chester Water Authority (CWA) has confirmed that there was a water main break located within an active construction zone along Route 322 near Cherry Tree Road in Upper Chichester Township. CWA is currently investigating the cause of the break and will report its findings to ratepayers as soon as the review is complete.
A specialty contractor is on site actively working to address the issue. During this time, customers may experience low to no water pressure. CWA anticipates partial service restoration by the end of the day on Friday, March 27, 2026.
“CWA understands the disruption the water main break has caused for our customers and the community,” said Darryl Jenkins, Executive Manager of Chester Water Authority. “Our crews and partners are working tirelessly to resolve the issue as quickly and safely as possible. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we restore service.”
A boil water advisory was issued Thursday afternoon for residents in Upper Chichester, Lower Chichester, Marcus Hook, and Twin Oaks. Customers outside of these areas do not need to take action. While some surrounding areas may experience low water pressure, boiling water is only necessary for those within the advisory zone.
To support affected residents, water filling stations have been established at the Upper Chichester Township Municipal Building, located at 8500 Furey Road, Upper Chichester Marcus Hook Borough Administrative Office, 1111 Market Street, Marcus Hook, and Ogden Fire Company, 4300 Naamans Creek Rd, Boothwyn. Residents are asked to bring their own containers.
CWA officials met with Delaware County Emergency Management Members during an emergency meeting Thursday evening to address public safety concerns and coordinate with local fire departments. Measures have been put in place to ensure that firefighting capabilities are not compromised.
CWA will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
